Infestation (comics)

Infestation is a comic book crossover event published by IDW Publishing, beginning in January 2011. The core concept revolves around a zombie outbreak originating in IDW's Transformers universe and spreading to other licensed properties published by IDW, including G.I. Joe, Star Trek, and Ghostbusters.

The central narrative focuses on a transdimensional plague, the "Zombies," that infects various worlds and characters. The Zombies are depicted as rapidly spreading and highly infectious, presenting a significant threat to the populations of the affected universes. The event spans multiple mini-series and one-shots, each focusing on how the outbreak affects specific characters and settings within their respective franchises.

The crossover aims to explore how different characters and teams react to and combat a zombie apocalypse, highlighting the unique elements and lore of each franchise while maintaining a cohesive narrative thread. The success of the initial Infestation event led to a sequel, Infestation 2, which featured a similar crossover format but involved a different type of interdimensional threat – Lovecraftian horrors.
