Carlos Paredes (footballer)
Carlos Alberto Paredes Romero (born 16 July 1976) is a Paraguayan former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder.
Career:
Paredes began his career with Olimpia Asunción in Paraguay. He then moved to Portugal, where he played for FC Porto for several seasons, winning multiple titles including the UEFA Champions League in 2004. He also had spells with Reggina in Italy, Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, and Rubio Ñu in Paraguay, amongst other clubs.
International Career:
Paredes was a regular for the Paraguay national team, earning over 70 caps. He represented Paraguay in the 1998, 2002, and 2006 FIFA World Cups, as well as several Copa América tournaments. He was known for his tenacious tackling and work rate in midfield.
