Dorati

Antal Doráti (1906-1988) was a Hungarian-born conductor and composer, naturalized as an American citizen in 1947, and later as a Swiss citizen. He is particularly known for his extensive discography, having recorded numerous works multiple times with different orchestras. He was a significant figure in promoting the music of Béla Bartók, particularly his orchestral works and operas. Doráti held principal conductor positions with several prominent orchestras, including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (later renamed the Minnesota Orchestra), the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also known for his expertise in conducting ballet music, leading recordings of complete scores such as Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker, as well as Delibes' Coppélia and Sylvia. His compositions include symphonies, concertos, and chamber music.
