Monsters Unleashed (comics)
Monsters Unleashed is a comic book title published by Marvel Comics. The name has been used for several distinct series, each featuring giant monsters as the primary focus.
The original Monsters Unleashed was a black-and-white magazine published in the 1970s. This series featured reprinted and original stories of various monsters, often inspired by classic monster movies and pulp fiction. It was known for its mature themes and artwork. Notable monsters featured included creatures like Godzilla (re-named "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" due to licensing), as well as original characters.
More recently, Marvel resurrected the Monsters Unleashed title in 2017 as a limited series event. This series featured various Marvel heroes facing off against a massive wave of giant monsters suddenly appearing around the world. The story focused on a young Inhuman named Kei Kawade, who possessed the ability to summon monsters himself. The event tied into other Marvel titles and involved characters from various superhero teams.
After the 2017 event, the Monsters Unleashed title was relaunched as an ongoing series, continuing Kei Kawade's story as he learned to control his powers and deal with the ongoing threat of giant monsters. This series retained a focus on large-scale monster action and featured Kei interacting with various Marvel heroes and villains. The series was eventually cancelled.
