Narvi (moon)

Narvi is a small, irregular moon of Saturn. It was discovered in 2003 by Scott S. Sheppard, David C. Jewitt, Jan Kleyna, and Brian G. Marsden using observations taken between February 5, 2003, and March 3, 2003.

Narvi is a member of the Norse group of irregular satellites, which are moons that follow distant, inclined, and eccentric orbits around Saturn, and are believed to be fragments of larger bodies that were disrupted by collisions. The Norse group's members are named after figures from Norse mythology.

It orbits Saturn at an average distance of approximately 19 million kilometers (12 million miles) in a retrograde direction (opposite to the direction Saturn rotates). Its orbital period is approximately 1006 Earth days.

Narvi is estimated to be about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) in diameter, assuming an albedo (reflectivity) of 0.06.

The moon's name, Narvi, comes from a giant in Norse mythology, a son of Loki and Sigyn. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) officially approved the name in January 2005.
