USS Edwards (DD-619)

The USS Edwards (DD-619) was a Fletcher-class destroyer of the United States Navy. Named for Lieutenant Commander Walter J. Edwards, who was killed in action during World War I, she was commissioned on November 9, 1942, and served throughout World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Edwards participated in numerous campaigns and battles, including the Guadalcanal Campaign, the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, the New Guinea Campaign, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and the Battle of Okinawa. She provided anti-aircraft support, shore bombardment, and screening for larger naval units. She earned several battle stars for her service.

Following the end of World War II, Edwards remained in service for a brief period before being decommissioned on July 20, 1946. She was subsequently placed in the Pacific Reserve Fleet. In 1968, she was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register and sold for scrap.
