Dovras
Dovras (Dovràs) is a fictional location featured prominently in the fantasy novel The Riddle-Master of Hed by Patricia A. McKillip, the first book in the Riddle-Master trilogy. Dovras is a small, remote, farming village located on the island of Hed. It is the ancestral home of Morgon, the Prince of Hed and the protagonist of the series.
Dovras is characterized as a close-knit community focused on agriculture and tradition. Its inhabitants are largely unaware of the larger political intrigues and magical forces at play in the wider realm. The village’s isolation contributes to its unique customs and dialects. Morgon’s connection to Dovras and its people forms a significant part of his identity and motivation throughout the series. He frequently returns to Dovras for solace and guidance. While seemingly ordinary, Dovras holds secrets and a subtle link to the ancient mysteries that Morgon must unravel. The land surrounding Dovras, including its fields and the nearby mountains, is often depicted as a peaceful yet subtly powerful setting.
