Victoria Peak (Belize)

Victoria Peak is the second-highest point in Belize, reaching a height of 1,124 meters (3,688 feet). It is located in the Maya Mountains, within the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area primarily established to protect jaguars.

The peak is a popular, though challenging, destination for experienced hikers. The trek to the summit typically takes several days, requiring physical endurance and preparation for navigating the dense jungle terrain. Guided tours are strongly recommended due to the complexity of the trail and the potential for getting lost.

The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding rainforest and Maya Mountains. The area is rich in biodiversity, supporting a variety of flora and fauna, including numerous bird species, mammals, and reptiles. The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, and therefore Victoria Peak, contributes significantly to Belize's ecotourism industry.

The local Maya people hold the mountains, including Victoria Peak, in reverence, and the area is steeped in history and cultural significance. Respect for the environment and the local culture is an important aspect of any visit.
