Joseph Weyland (bishop)
Joseph Weyland (born March 18, 1965) is a German Roman Catholic prelate, currently serving as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Fulda.
Weyland was born in Geisa, East Germany. He studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the University of Fulda and the University of Innsbruck. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1995, by Archbishop Johannes Dyba in Fulda Cathedral.
Following his ordination, Weyland served as a chaplain in Neuhof and subsequently as a youth chaplain in Fulda. He then served as pastor in Eichenzell. He was also Dean of the Hünfeld-Geisa deanery.
On June 5, 2015, Pope Francis appointed Weyland as Auxiliary Bishop of Fulda and Titular Bishop of Gillium. He was consecrated as a bishop on August 23, 2015, in Fulda Cathedral by Bishop Heinz Josef Algermissen. His co-consecrators were Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker of Paderborn and Auxiliary Bishop Karlheinz Diez of Fulda.
As Auxiliary Bishop, Weyland is responsible for various pastoral tasks within the Diocese of Fulda, assisting the Diocesan Bishop in his governance of the diocese. His specific areas of responsibility vary, but often include overseeing certain regions or departments within the diocese. He is a member of several commissions within the German Bishops' Conference.
