Parti National (Quebec)

The Parti National (National Party) was the name of two distinct political parties in the province of Quebec, Canada.

The first Parti National existed from 1886 to 1900. It was formed by Honoré Mercier, who united the Parti Libéral du Québec with disaffected members of the Parti Conservateur du Québec. This coalition was largely driven by a sense of Quebec nationalism and opposition to the federal government's handling of the execution of Louis Riel. Mercier led the party to victory in the 1886 Quebec election. The party advocated for provincial autonomy and championed French-Canadian interests. It was implicated in a scandal involving railway construction in the early 1890s, which contributed to its defeat in the 1892 election. The party effectively dissolved around 1900.

The second Parti National was a short-lived sovereigntist political party active in 1985. It was formed by former Parti Québécois (PQ) cabinet ministers who were dissatisfied with the PQ's leadership and direction under Pierre-Marc Johnson. The party advocated for a more radical approach to Quebec independence. It was led by Denis Lazure. The Parti National failed to win any seats in the 1985 Quebec election and subsequently dissolved.
