Woollaton

Woollaton is a suburb and ward located in the city of Nottingham, England. It lies to the west of the city centre and is known for Wollaton Hall, a Grade I listed Elizabethan country house situated within Wollaton Park.

History:

The area's history can be traced back to the Domesday Book of 1086, where it was recorded as "Ollatune." The name likely derives from Old English, possibly meaning "Wulla's farm" or "Wulla's estate." The Wollaton family held the manor from the Norman Conquest until the late 16th century when it was sold to Sir Francis Willoughby. He commissioned the building of Wollaton Hall.

Wollaton Hall and Park:
