HMS Ferret (1806)

HMS Ferret was an 18-gun Cherokee-class brig-sloop of the Royal Navy launched in 1806. She was built by Kingdom at Sandgate. Like other ships of her class, she was designed by Sir William Rule.

Ferret saw active service during the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812. Her duties typically involved patrolling, escorting convoys, and capturing enemy privateers and merchant vessels.

One notable incident in Ferret's career was the capture of the French privateer Espoir in 1811.

The Cherokee-class sloops were noted for their relatively small size and maneuverability, making them well-suited for coastal patrols and operations in confined waters. They were armed with eighteen 32-pounder carronades and two 6-pounder guns.

Ferret was eventually sold out of the service in 1819.
