Scarfies

Scarfies is a term used primarily in New Zealand, particularly in Dunedin, to refer to students, especially those at the University of Otago. The term originated due to the common practice of students wearing scarves in the often cold climate of Dunedin. The stereotypical "Scarfie" is often associated with student culture, including flat parties, heavy alcohol consumption, and distinctive student fashion. While the term can sometimes be used affectionately or humorously, it can also carry negative connotations, implying rowdy or irresponsible behaviour.
