Highwayman (The Highwaymen album)
Highwayman is the debut studio album by the American country supergroup The Highwaymen, composed of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. It was released in 1985 on Columbia Records.
The album's title track, "Highwayman," written by Jimmy Webb, was a major success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. The song, which tells the story of a soul reincarnated through different eras as a highwayman, a sailor, a dam builder, and ultimately a starship pilot, became the group's signature song and helped define their image as outlaw country artists.
