Metafive
Metafive is a Japanese supergroup formed in 2014. The band consists of Yukihiro Takahashi (drums, vocals; formerly of Yellow Magic Orchestra), Leo Ieiri (vocals), Towa Tei (keyboards, DJ; formerly of Deee-Lite), Yoshinori Sunahara (synthesizer, programming; formerly of Denki Groove), and Tomohiko Gondo (horns, arrangement; known for his work with Cornelius).
Metafive's music blends electronic music, pop, funk, and new wave influences. The group is known for its sophisticated arrangements, catchy melodies, and high production values. The members' individual musical backgrounds contribute to the band's diverse and eclectic sound.
The band's name is often written as METAFIVE. They have released several albums and singles, achieving significant recognition within the Japanese music scene. Their collaborations with other artists and appearances at music festivals have further solidified their reputation as a prominent force in contemporary Japanese music. The group's activities have been occasionally interrupted due to the members' individual projects and, sadly, the passing of Yukihiro Takahashi in 2023.
