Mexborough (Ferry Boat) Halt railway station
Mexborough (Ferry Boat) Halt railway station was a small railway station located near Mexborough, South Yorkshire, England. It served the Ferry Boat Inn and the surrounding area. The station was situated on the Dearne Valley Line, which connected Sheffield and Doncaster.
The station was opened by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) on 1 September 1902. It was built as a "halt", indicating a very basic level of facilities, typically consisting of a simple wooden platform and perhaps a basic shelter. Halts were often introduced to serve rural communities or specific destinations like factories or, in this case, an inn.
Passenger services were withdrawn from Mexborough (Ferry Boat) Halt on 8 September 1958. The station was subsequently closed completely, and the platform was eventually removed. There are no visible remains of the station today.
