Sinjar (film)
Sinjar is a 2018 Indian Malayalam-language film directed by Pampally Joseph. It is a drama that tells the story of two Yazidi women, Arzoo and her sister-in-law Heera, who are captured by ISIS and forced into sexual slavery in Sinjar, Iraq. The film follows their harrowing experiences and eventual escape back to a refugee camp in India.
The film is notable for its realistic depiction of the atrocities committed by ISIS against the Yazidi people, and its focus on the psychological trauma experienced by survivors of sexual violence. Sinjar was filmed in real refugee camps in India and features a cast of primarily non-actors, including Yazidi refugees themselves, adding to its authenticity.
