John Coffey (band)

John Coffey was a Dutch post-hardcore band formed in 2005 in Utrecht. They were known for their energetic live performances and blending elements of hardcore punk, sludge metal, and rock music. The band's name is derived from the character in Stephen King's novel The Green Mile.

The lineup consisted of David Achter de Molen (vocals), Alfred van Luttikhuizen (guitar), Christoffer van Teijlingen (guitar), Richard ter Beek (bass), and Carsten Brunsveld (drums).

John Coffey released several EPs and albums throughout their career, including Vanity (2007), Bright Tensions (2009), A Sea of Blood (2012), and The Great News (2015). The Great News achieved significant commercial success in the Netherlands.

The band gained notoriety in 2015 when a video of vocalist David Achter de Molen catching a beer thrown from the crowd and drinking it mid-air went viral.

John Coffey announced their disbandment in 2016, playing a final show at the Lowlands festival in the Netherlands.
