Manthan (मंथन) is a Sanskrit word that translates to "churning," "agitation," or "deep contemplation." It carries both literal and metaphorical meanings.

Literal Meaning: In its literal sense, Manthan refers to the physical act of churning, often associated with the churning of the ocean of milk (Samudra Manthan) in Hindu mythology. This involved using Mount Mandara as a churning rod and Vasuki, the serpent king, as the rope to produce various celestial gifts, including Amrita (the nectar of immortality), but also Halahala (a potent poison).
