Coneygree
Coneygree is a retired British Thoroughbred racehorse, best known for winning the 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup, a prestigious Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase. Bred and owned by the Bradstock family, Coneygree achieved the unique feat of winning the Gold Cup as a novice, having never previously run in an open chase.
His early career was hampered by injury, limiting his racing opportunities. However, when fit, Coneygree demonstrated exceptional talent and jumping ability. He was trained by Mark Bradstock and ridden primarily by Nico de Boinville.
Coneygree's victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup marked a significant moment in racing history, as he became the first novice to win the race since 1974. He defeated established Gold Cup contenders, proving his stamina and class.
Following his Gold Cup triumph, Coneygree continued to race, although his form was inconsistent due to recurring injuries. He was eventually retired from racing in 2019. Despite his injury setbacks, Coneygree remains a popular and respected figure within the National Hunt racing community, remembered for his courageous running style and historic Gold Cup victory.
