Bots (band)
Bots was a Dutch political folk and rock band, known for its protest songs and leftist political views. Formed in 1967 in Eindhoven, the band's peak popularity was in the 1970s. Their music often addressed social and political issues, including class struggle, anti-imperialism, and workers' rights.
The band's lineup went through several changes over the years, but some of the core members included Hans Sanders (vocals, guitar), Bonny B. (bass), and Floor Minnaert (drums). Sanders, often considered the driving force behind Bots, wrote many of their most well-known songs.
Bots achieved significant success in both the Netherlands and Germany, particularly with their song "Wat zullen we drinken zeven dagen lang" (What shall we drink, seven days long). This song, based on an older folk tune, became an anthem for leftist movements. Other notable songs include "Populier op China's erf" and "De Man".
Although the band's active period diminished after the 1970s, Bots continued to perform occasionally. Their music remains influential and is often revived in political contexts. Their legacy lies in their direct and unapologetic approach to political songwriting within the Dutch music scene.
