Alfred Apaka

Alfred Apaka (March 19, 1919 – January 26, 1960) was a celebrated Hawaiian singer and entertainer, known for his powerful baritone voice and charismatic stage presence. Often referred to as "The Golden Voice of Hawaii," he gained significant popularity in the 1950s, performing regularly at the Hawaiian Village Hotel (later the Hilton Hawaiian Village) in Waikiki. Apaka’s performances helped to popularize Hawaiian music and culture with a wider audience, particularly mainland American tourists. He recorded several albums and singles, many of which became iconic representations of Hawaiian music. His career was tragically cut short by a heart attack at the age of 40. Apaka's legacy continues to influence Hawaiian musicians and remains a significant part of Hawaii's cultural heritage.
