Ghazaouet

Ghazaouet is a coastal town and commune located in the Tlemcen Province of northwestern Algeria. Situated near the border with Morocco, it is a port city on the Mediterranean Sea.

History:

Ghazaouet has a history influenced by various cultures and empires. In ancient times, the area was inhabited by Berber populations. Later, it came under Roman influence, and subsequent Arab and Ottoman rule. The town's coastal location made it strategically important for trade and defense. During the French colonial period in Algeria, Ghazaouet was known as Nemours. Following Algeria's independence in 1962, the town reverted to its original name, Ghazaouet.
