Fred (footballer, born 1979)
Frederico Chaves Guedes (born October 3, 1979), commonly known as Fred, is a retired Brazilian professional footballer who played as a striker.
Fred is best known for his prolific goalscoring record, particularly during his time playing for Lyon in France and Fluminense in Brazil. He possessed strong aerial ability, good finishing skills, and an aggressive style of play.
He began his professional career with América Mineiro before moving to Cruzeiro, where he gained national recognition. In 2005, he transferred to Lyon, becoming a key player for the French club and winning several Ligue 1 titles.
Returning to Brazil in 2009, Fred joined Fluminense, where he experienced a successful period, winning two Brasileirão Série A titles. He also had stints with Atlético Mineiro before returning to Fluminense again, eventually retiring in 2022.
Fred was a member of the Brazil national team and participated in the 2006 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. He also won the 2007 Copa América. While a prolific scorer at club level, his performances for the national team were sometimes criticized.
