Thomas Myddelton (younger)

Thomas Myddelton (younger) (1651 – 1726) was a Welsh landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1689 and 1722. He was the son of Sir Thomas Myddelton, 1st Baronet of Chirk Castle, and succeeded to the baronetcy on his father’s death in 1666.

Myddelton represented various constituencies throughout his career, including Denbighshire (1689-1690, 1695-1698, 1701-1702, 1710-1715) and Denbigh Boroughs (1690-1695, 1698-1701, 1702-1705, 1715-1722). He was generally considered a Tory in his political leanings.

Myddelton's parliamentary career was marked by periods of activity and relative quiet. He was involved in debates and committees concerning Welsh affairs and national issues. His social standing as a baronet and his family's extensive landholdings in North Wales gave him considerable influence within the region. He married Charlotte Bridgeman, daughter of Sir Orlando Bridgeman, 1st Baronet, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal. He was succeeded in the baronetcy by his son, Sir William Myddelton, 3rd Baronet.
