Śródmieście (former district of Szczecin)
Śródmieście was one of the four former districts (dzielnice) of Szczecin, Poland. It encompassed the city center and surrounding areas. The district was abolished as part of an administrative reorganization of Szczecin in 2011.
Geographically, Śródmieście occupied a central position within Szczecin. It was characterized by a mix of residential, commercial, and administrative buildings. Key landmarks and institutions were located within its boundaries, including major shopping areas, government offices, cultural venues, and historical sites.
Administratively, the district had its own local government and elected council, responsible for managing local affairs and representing the interests of residents.
Following the 2011 reorganization, the territory formerly comprising Śródmieście was redistributed among three new administrative units: Śródmieście-Północ, Śródmieście-Zachód, and Północ. This change aimed to streamline administrative processes and improve the efficiency of local governance. While the district itself no longer exists as a formal administrative entity, the name Śródmieście continues to be used informally to refer to the central area of Szczecin.
