Cal Ermer
Cal Ermer (born Carl Raymond Ermer, November 27, 1923 – October 19, 2009) was an American professional baseball player, coach, and manager. He is best known for his managerial career with the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1967 to 1968, and again briefly in 1980.
Ermer played as an infielder in Minor League Baseball from 1942 to 1955, interrupted by military service in World War II. He never reached the major leagues as a player. Following his playing career, he transitioned to coaching and managing roles within the Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins organization.
He managed the Twins to an American League West Division title in 1969. Ermer's managerial style was often described as disciplined and focused on fundamentals. While his 1969 team reached the AL Championship Series, they were swept by the Baltimore Orioles. He was replaced as manager following a slow start in 1970.
After leaving the Twins, Ermer continued to work in baseball as a scout and instructor. He returned for a short stint as the Twins' interim manager in 1980, following the firing of John Goryl.
