Duncan Ross (Scottish politician)
Duncan Ross (1870 – 1916) was a Scottish Liberal politician and lawyer.
Early Life and Career:
Born in Ferintosh, Ross-shire, Scotland, Duncan Ross was educated at the Free Church School in Ferintosh, and later at the University of Edinburgh where he studied law. He qualified as a solicitor and established a legal practice.
Political Career:
Ross entered politics and served as the Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for Ross and Cromarty from 1911 until his death in 1916. He won the seat in a by-election following the elevation of the previous MP, James Galloway Weir, to the peerage.
During his time in Parliament, Ross was known for his advocacy for the interests of his Highland constituency, particularly concerning land reform and the crofters' rights.
Death:
Duncan Ross died suddenly in 1916 while still serving as an MP. He was only 46 years old. A by-election was held to fill his vacant seat.
