Minister of Finance (Slovenia)
The Minister of Finance of Slovenia is the head of the Ministry of Finance, a key government department responsible for managing the financial affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. This includes the national budget, taxation, customs, public debt, and accounting. The Minister is appointed by the Prime Minister and is a member of the Slovenian Cabinet.
Responsibilities:
The core responsibilities of the Minister of Finance include:
- Preparing and executing the national budget.
- Formulating and implementing fiscal policy.
- Managing the public debt.
- Overseeing the tax system and collection.
- Supervising the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (FURS).
- Representing Slovenia in international financial institutions and forums, such as the European Union's Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Bank.
- Drafting legislation related to financial matters.
- Contributing to the overall economic policy of the government.
Appointment and Term:
The Minister of Finance is nominated by the Prime Minister and confirmed by the National Assembly (the Slovenian Parliament). The term of office coincides with the term of the government, which is typically four years. A Minister can be removed from office through a vote of no confidence in the government or by the Prime Minister.
Role within the Government:
The Minister of Finance plays a critical role in the Slovenian government, as their decisions significantly impact the country's economy and public services.
