Richard Newman (priest)
Richard Newman (born 1964) is a British Anglican priest and academic. He is currently the Dean of Lincoln, having been installed in that role in 2023.
Prior to his appointment at Lincoln, Newman served as the Archdeacon of Rochester and a Residentiary Canon of Rochester Cathedral from 2013 to 2023. He also held the position of Director of Ministerial Education and Training for the Diocese of Rochester.
Newman was educated at Durham University, where he studied theology. He trained for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge. He was ordained as a deacon in 1992 and as a priest in 1993.
His earlier ministry included curacies in the Diocese of Southwark. He later served as Vicar of Christ Church, Erith, before moving to Rochester.
Newman has published articles and essays on theological and pastoral issues. His areas of interest include ministerial formation, church leadership, and the relationship between faith and culture. He is married and has children.
