Nara Leão

Nara Leão (January 19, 1942 – June 7, 1989) was a Brazilian bossa nova and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) singer and occasional actress. Known as the "Muse of Bossa Nova," she played a significant role in the popularization of the genre in the early 1960s.

Initially recognized for her delicate and intimate vocal style, exemplified in her early albums featuring classic bossa nova compositions, Leão later transitioned to a more politically engaged artistic persona during the period of Brazil's military dictatorship. Her music began to incorporate protest songs and politically charged lyrics, reflecting her commitment to social justice and artistic freedom.
