Juan Mendez (politician)
Juan Mendez is an American politician and educator from Arizona. He served as a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives representing Legislative District 26 from 2011 to 2019, and later the redrawn District 17 from 2019 to 2023.
Mendez's political career has focused on issues related to education, LGBTQ+ rights, and criminal justice reform. He was a vocal advocate for public education funding and policies aimed at improving student outcomes. He also championed legislation to protect the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals in Arizona, including non-discrimination ordinances and marriage equality.
Prior to his service in the Arizona Legislature, Mendez worked as a teacher and remained active in community organizing. He holds a degree in education. During his time in the legislature, he served on various committees, including those focused on education, judiciary, and appropriations.
Mendez chose not to seek re-election in 2022.
