Piran (tribe)

The Piran are an indigenous people inhabiting a region primarily along the Maici River in the Amazon rainforest, within the Brazilian state of Amazonas. They are known for their unique culture, particularly their language, Pirahã, which is notable for its simple phonology and purported lack of recursion and number concepts beyond "one," "two," and "many." The Pirahã have maintained a largely hunter-gatherer lifestyle and have resisted assimilation into broader Brazilian society.
