Anagnosti

Anagnosti (Greek: Αναγνώστης) is a Greek word meaning "reader." Historically, it refers to a specific ecclesiastical office or role within the Eastern Orthodox Church, akin to a Lector in other Christian traditions. An Anagnosti is ordained to read liturgical texts during services, including scripture, hymns, and other prescribed readings. The role is a minor order, a step below a deacon. The ordination of an Anagnosti involves a formal blessing and investiture with specific liturgical garments. Besides liturgical reading, an Anagnosti may also assist in other church duties as needed.
