Gumerište

Gumerište is an archaeological site located near the town of Nova Zagora in Bulgaria. It is significant for its tell settlement, a mound formed by the accumulated remains of human habitation over long periods. Excavations at Gumerište have revealed evidence of continuous settlement from the Late Neolithic period (around the 6th millennium BCE) through the Early Bronze Age.

The site is particularly known for its rich collection of artifacts, which include pottery, figurines, tools made of stone and bone, and evidence of early agricultural practices. These finds provide valuable insights into the daily life, social organization, and technological advancements of the prehistoric populations that inhabited the area.

Gumerište is considered one of the most important Neolithic sites in Bulgaria and the broader Balkan region, contributing significantly to our understanding of the Neolithic revolution and the development of early farming communities in Europe. The findings from Gumerište are displayed in various museums, including the National Archaeological Museum in Sofia and the History Museum in Nova Zagora. Ongoing research and preservation efforts continue at the site.
