Cured (film)

Cured is a 2017 Irish horror film directed by David Freyne. The film stars Elliot Page, Sam Keeley, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and explores the societal and personal impact of a cure for a zombie-like virus that previously plagued humanity.

The plot centers on the aftermath of the "Maze Virus" outbreak. While a cure has been discovered, those previously infected, known as the "Cured," retain memories of their violent actions while infected. Robbie (Keeley), is one of the cured, struggling to reintegrate into a society fearful and distrustful of his kind. Senator Joan Mullen (Page), supports a program aimed at helping the cured re-enter society. As societal tensions rise, a militant group of cured individuals, led by Conor (Vaughan-Lawlor), emerges, believing they deserve special status and seeking to exploit the government's fear.

The film examines themes of prejudice, societal fear of the "other," and the long-term consequences of trauma. It explores questions of redemption and forgiveness, both on an individual and societal level, while maintaining the suspense and tension expected of a horror film.
