Svjetliča
Svjetliča (pronounced [ˈsvjɛtlit͡ʃa]) is a Croatian word that most directly translates to "skylight" or "dormer window" in English. It refers to a window set into the roof of a building, typically projecting vertically from the roof plane.
More broadly, svjetliča can also refer to any type of window or opening that is designed to let light into an otherwise enclosed space, even if it's not strictly a traditional skylight. This looser definition might include high-placed windows intended primarily for illumination rather than ventilation or viewing.
The term carries a slightly antiquated or traditional feel, often being associated with older buildings or architectural styles. While krovni prozor (roof window) is a more commonly used term in modern Croatian for a standard skylight, svjetliča still retains its relevance, particularly when describing architectural features with a historical or aesthetic significance.
In some contexts, depending on the region and architectural vernacular, svjetliča can also evoke the image of a small, charming window nestled into a sloping roof, contributing to the overall character of the building.
