Troy (horse)

The Trojan Horse is a famous story from Greek mythology, most notably recounted in Virgil's Aeneid, although it is alluded to in Homer's Odyssey. It describes a stratagem used by the Greeks to enter the fortified city of Troy and win the Trojan War.

After a ten-year siege of Troy, the Greeks, seemingly defeated, pretended to sail away, leaving behind a large wooden horse as an offering to the gods, particularly Poseidon, god of the sea. The horse was hollow and concealed a select group of Greek soldiers led by Odysseus.

The Trojans, believing the horse was a peace offering and a sign of Greek surrender, brought it inside their city walls. That night, the Greek soldiers hidden inside the horse emerged and opened the city gates to the returning Greek army, who had sailed back under cover of darkness. The Greeks then overwhelmed the city, ending the Trojan War.

The Trojan Horse is a potent symbol of deception, cunning, and the potential for hidden dangers. The phrase "Trojan Horse" is now commonly used to describe anything that appears benign or beneficial on the surface but secretly carries a threat or hidden agenda.
