George Barne (died 1593)

George Barne (died 1593) was an English merchant and Lord Mayor of London. He was a member of the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers and served as Sheriff of London in 1575. He was elected Lord Mayor in 1586, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. His mayoralty was largely unremarkable, focusing on the routine administration of the city and the maintenance of order. He died in office in 1593. He was the son of Sir George Barne (died 1558), also a Lord Mayor of London, and thus part of a family prominent in London's civic life. He had several children including Sir George Barne (died 1627) who continued the family's involvement in London affairs.
