Wong (Marvel Comics)
Wong is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is best known as the loyal friend, servant, and ally of Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme.
Publication History
Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Wong first appeared in Strange Tales #110 (July 1963). Initially, his character was depicted as a stereotypical Asian manservant. However, subsequent portrayals have evolved him into a more complex and integral part of Doctor Strange's supporting cast.
Fictional Character Biography
Wong is a descendant of Kan, a monk who lived over a thousand years ago and was a student of magic. Wong's family has traditionally served the Ancient One, Doctor Strange's mentor. Wong was sent to Kamar-Taj at a young age to train as a monk and martial artist. When Doctor Strange began his training under the Ancient One, Wong was assigned to serve him.
Wong's duties extend beyond those of a traditional manservant. He is a skilled martial artist, a knowledgeable scholar of the mystic arts, and a capable spellcaster in his own right. He assists Doctor Strange in researching spells, gathering magical artifacts, and defending the Earth from supernatural threats. He has often acted as a liaison between Doctor Strange and other heroes, such as the Avengers.
Over the years, Wong has proven to be fiercely loyal to Doctor Strange, often risking his life to protect him. He has also developed a close friendship with Strange and is considered a trusted confidant.
