John Hamilton (Kansas politician)
John Hamilton (1853-1924) was a prominent Republican politician in Kansas during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He served as the 16th Lieutenant Governor of Kansas from 1895 to 1897 under Governor Edmund N. Morrill.
Born in Carlinville, Illinois, Hamilton moved to Topeka, Kansas, in 1870, where he became involved in various business and political activities. He was a lawyer by profession and held several local and state government positions prior to becoming Lieutenant Governor.
Hamilton was a strong advocate for Republican Party principles and played a significant role in shaping legislation during his time in office. While Lieutenant Governor, he presided over the Kansas State Senate. After his term as Lieutenant Governor, he remained active in Kansas politics and business. He was also involved in banking.
He died in Topeka in 1924 and is buried in Topeka Cemetery.
