Johnny Townsend (American football)
Johnny Townsend (born December 26, 1995) is an American football punter. He played college football at the University of Florida.
Early Life and High School:
Townsend attended Boone High School in Orlando, Florida, where he played football as a punter and placekicker. He was a highly-rated punting prospect coming out of high school.
College Career:
Townsend played for the Florida Gators from 2014 to 2017. He served as the Gators' primary punter for all four years. He was a three-time All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection, earning first-team honors in 2016 and 2017. Townsend holds multiple punting records at the University of Florida, including career punting average.
Professional Career:
Townsend was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He served as the Raiders' punter for the 2018 season. He was later released by the Raiders. He has since had stints with other NFL teams, including the New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens, often as a practice squad member.
