The Body (band)
The Body is an American experimental metal/noise rock duo formed in Providence, Rhode Island in 1999. The band consists of Chip King (guitar, vocals) and Lee Buford (drums, programming).
Known for their relentlessly bleak and abrasive sound, The Body combines elements of doom metal, noise rock, drone, and industrial music. Their music is characterized by crushing low-end frequencies, distorted and heavily processed vocals, and unconventional song structures. Often, they incorporate samples and programmed elements to further augment their already dense and overwhelming sound.
The Body's lyrical themes frequently explore subjects such as human suffering, existential dread, and the darker aspects of the human condition. Their raw and unflinching approach to these themes has garnered them a dedicated following within the extreme music community.
Over their career, The Body have collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Thou, Krieg, Uniform, and Lingua Ignota, further expanding their sonic palette and blurring genre boundaries. Their extensive discography includes numerous full-length albums, EPs, and collaborations, released on labels such as At A Loss Recordings, Thrill Jockey, and RVNG Intl. The band is also known for their intense and cathartic live performances.
