Philip Honywood (British Army officer, died 1785)
Philip Honywood (c. 1710 – 21 June 1785) was a British Army officer who achieved the rank of General.
Honywood entered the army as an ensign in the 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards in 1726. He served in various regiments throughout his career, including the Royal Regiment of Ireland and the 11th Dragoons. He saw active service in the War of the Austrian Succession, participating in the Battle of Dettingen in 1743 and the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745. He was promoted to lieutenant-colonel in 1749, colonel in 1757, major-general in 1759, lieutenant-general in 1761, and general in 1778.
He served as Colonel of the 37th Regiment of Foot from 1762 to 1778 and then as Colonel of the 4th Regiment of Horse (later 4th Dragoon Guards) from 1778 until his death.
Honywood was Member of Parliament for Appleby from 1747 to 1754.
He died on 21 June 1785 at his residence in Portland Place, London.
