Peter Mills (American politician)

Peter Mills is an American politician from Maine. He is a Republican and has served in both the Maine House of Representatives and the Maine State Senate.

Mills is perhaps best known for his long career in public service and his focus on fiscal policy. He served in the Maine House from 1997 to 2005, representing District 84. He then served in the Maine Senate from 2005 to 2013, representing District 13. During his time in the Senate, he served on the Appropriations Committee and the Taxation Committee, playing a key role in state budget negotiations.

Mills is a lawyer by profession, and his legal background has informed his approach to policymaking. He has often advocated for limited government spending and lower taxes.

After leaving the legislature, Mills continued to be involved in Maine politics. He was nominated by Governor Paul LePage to serve as Executive Director of the Maine Turnpike Authority in 2013 and served in that capacity until 2021.

His brother, Paul LePage, served as the Governor of Maine from 2011 to 2019.
