Gene McCarthy (Gaelic footballer)
Gene McCarthy is a former Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Cork senior team. A versatile player, he typically featured in defence, often at corner-back or wing-back.
McCarthy enjoyed a successful career with Cork, winning several Munster Senior Football Championship titles. He was also part of the Cork team that won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the pinnacle of Gaelic football, in 1989 and 1990.
Beyond his inter-county career, McCarthy also played club football with his local team, Nemo Rangers, one of the most successful Gaelic football clubs in Ireland. He achieved success with Nemo Rangers, winning numerous Cork Senior Football Championships and Munster Club Senior Football Championships. He also won All-Ireland Club Senior Football Championships with Nemo Rangers.
McCarthy's contribution to Gaelic football, both at club and county level, is widely recognized.
