James Tolmie (Australian politician)

James Tolmie (1861 – 1939) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly.

Tolmie was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and emigrated to Australia in 1882. He settled in Queensland and became involved in pastoral industries.

He entered politics in 1907, winning the seat of Warwick as a member of the Ministerialist party, a conservative grouping supporting the government of William Kidston. He continued to represent Warwick under various party affiliations, including the Liberal Party and the Nationalist Party, until his retirement in 1922.

During his time in parliament, Tolmie held several ministerial positions. He served as Secretary for Agriculture and Stock from 1911 to 1915. He was a strong advocate for agricultural development and land settlement in Queensland. He also served briefly as Minister without Portfolio.

Tolmie was a prominent figure in Queensland politics during a period of significant political realignment and social change. His career reflected the evolving nature of conservative politics in the state.
