Ivan Sokolov (composer)

Ivan Glebovich Sokolov (born 1960) is a Russian composer, pianist, and music theorist. He is known for his complex and often highly dissonant musical language, drawing inspiration from various sources including Russian Orthodox chant, avant-garde techniques, and spectral music.

Sokolov studied at the Moscow Conservatory under Nikolai Sidelnikov (composition) and Lev Naumov (piano). He has held teaching positions at the Moscow Conservatory and the Gnessin State Musical College.

His compositional output encompasses a wide range of genres, including orchestral works, chamber music, vocal music, and solo instrumental pieces. Notable works include his symphonies, concertos, and string quartets. He has received commissions and performances internationally.
