SS Regina (1907)
The SS Regina was a passenger liner built in 1907 by Alexander Stephen and Sons, Glasgow, Scotland for the Dominion Line. Initially intended for transatlantic service between Liverpool and Canada, she was later transferred to the White Star Line and renamed Regina.
Launched on April 19, 1907, the Regina measured approximately 16,314 gross registered tons and could accommodate around 2,200 passengers in various classes. Her propulsion system consisted of quadruple-expansion steam engines driving twin screws, allowing for a service speed of approximately 16 knots.
Throughout her career, the Regina primarily served on the North Atlantic route, carrying passengers, mail, and cargo between Europe and North America. During World War I, she was requisitioned for service as a troop transport, carrying soldiers across the Atlantic.
Following the war, she was refitted and returned to civilian service. She remained in operation until 1929 when she was sold for scrapping. Her relatively short career spanned a significant period in transatlantic passenger travel, reflecting the changing demands and technologies of the early 20th century.
