Barsebäck

Barsebäck is a locality situated in Kävlinge Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden. It is best known as the site of the Barsebäck Nuclear Power Plant.

The Barsebäck Nuclear Power Plant consisted of two boiling water reactors (BWR). Reactor 1 was commissioned in 1975 and Reactor 2 in 1977. Due to political decisions related to nuclear power phase-out and concerns about its proximity to Copenhagen, Denmark, Reactor 1 was permanently shut down in 1999 and Reactor 2 in 2005.

The decommissioning of the power plant is an ongoing process. The area around Barsebäck also includes agricultural land and coastal areas along the Öresund strait.
